Why is it better to adopt?

Top 5 reasons to adopt a pet according to the Humane Society of the United States:

1*  You will save a life

adopt-a-shelter-dog        2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. There is a limited space on shelters and the number of homeless pets overpass the capacity of this shelters. If more people adopt instead of buying pets from pet shops, the number of euthanized animals could be dramatically changed. By adopting you are not only saving the life of the pet you just rescued, you are also saving another dog’s life who now has an space to be at the shelter.

2*  You will have a healthy pet

adopt_me1Shelters vaccinate and make different types of tests on the animals so when you take them home you have a happy and healthy pet. They also categorize pets so each and everyone can go to an adequate home. If you live in an apartment, if you have children, if you live alone, there is a pet for everyone! Animals also get neutered before leaving the shelter.

3*  You will save money

recycle-adopt-me-dog-vest       Adopting a pet from an animal shelter is less expensive than buying one at a pet store. Animals from many shelters are already spayed or neutered and vaccinated, which makes the shelter’s fee a real bargain.

    4*  You will feel better

Pets have a way of demonstrating their affection. They will make you feel happier, and it’s been proven   that they are psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial. Pets can also improve your health!

5*  You won’t be supporting puppy mills and pet stores

Puppy mills are kind of “factory style” dog breeding facilities that put profit over the dog’s welfare. Many of the dogs are put in cages and marketers make them breed as many puppys as the can, and then when they are no longer “useful” they are either killed or abandoned. So, yes… STOP buying dogs, there are plenty of pets out there who need your love and care.

  1. I agree there are so many great dogs in shelters and rescues that need homes. Pet stores should be helping the cause by promoting their local shelters not a puppy mill breeder only out to make money.
